You can use your text-enabled tracking numbers or short codes to send bulk text messages through the Contact Cloud system. This is an easy way to quickly send a text message to a list of your customers. If you need to confirm, or enable, text messaging with your tracking numbers, you can learn more about that here.

Once you have at least one text-enabled tracking number in your account, you can create or view your bulk messages by going to Activities → Bulk Messages. This page will display all past and scheduled bulk messages.

If a message is scheduled for a future time, you can click Edit to make changes before it is sent.

When you are editing a scheduled message, you can also click Cancel Bulk Message to cancel the scheduled message. If the bulk message has already been sent, you can click View to see details about the message, including the status, tracking number that sent the message, the list of recipients, the body of the message and the send and completion times of the message.

To create a new bulk message, click the New Message button. Enter your message into the Body field on this page, then scroll down to the From Numbers section. Use the Search field on the left side and then click on the tracking number(s) that you would like to send the bulk message. The tracking number(s) you select will be displayed on the right side, under From Numbers.

You may add plain text or text with emoji's 😀 in the text box. If you add emoji's or add pictures to the message, it is automatically sent as a MMS message.

Adding emoji's

On a MAC, right click inside of the text box and then click on 'Emoji's & Symbols'

On windows, press the windows-key AND the "." key at the same time. If this doesn't open the emoji keyboard then you might need to install an emoji keyboard plugin for Chrome browser.

MMS Messages: You may send up to 1,600 characters AND you can add an images or videos as long as they are less than < 4MB. You will only be billed ONLY for a single MMS message (up to the full 10 segments).

***A message is ONLY sent as an MMS message IF a picture video has been attached or emoji's have been added.

When adding emoji's to your MMS messages, its important to note that they reduce the total number of characters that can be sent.

Text Messages: You can send up to 1600 characters (10 segments) and IF there is no image attached, you will be billed per text segment. Each text message segment is 160 characters. You are only charged for each message segment in this case. Thus, if you send a 160 character message then you will only be billed for a single segment. But, if you sent a 1600 (10 segments) character SMS message then you would be billed for a 10 segment message or 10 single messages.

Depending on the phone carrier, the receiving party might receiving a multi-segment message as a continuous message or the message might be broken up into parts.

The next step is adding your list of recipients to receive the message - there are 3 ways to do this.

  1. You can click Manual Add to manually enter your list. Enter one number per line, including the country code (e.g. +6175006128).

  2. You also have the option to upload a CSV file of your recipients. Click on Upload CSV and then select the country code to be used for all of these recipients. Click on Choose File to select and upload your CSV file. Once the file is uploaded, you will see the first entry of your list. This can help you determine if you need to toggle the option to Exclude First Row. Click the Exclude First Row checkbox if needed (e.g. CSV file uses column names or headers).

  3. If you have previously created a contact list within Contact Cloud, then you can select the Use Existing List option, where you can select a predefined list of contacts.

The next step is selecting the from phone number, time to delivery and confirming mobile recipients.

Selecting the from number

You may select an unlimited amount of phones numbers to send your texts from, if you are sending to a large number or recipients, it is wise to send from multiple numbers to avoid undelivered messages. The carrier network can only process 1 messages per second maximum, which equates to 60 messages per minute.

Example: If you are sending to 6,000 recipients AND if you would like the messages delivered within 15 minutes you would minimum of 7 phone numbers. Our system will load balance the messages and send from all numbers in parallel.

The system will inform you of how many phone numbers are needed to send your campaign affectively. (This notice only occurs IF you have not selected to send to a list)

The last step is choosing when to send the bulk message. You can choose to Send Now, and the message will be sent as soon as you click Schedule Bulk Message. If you choose Send Later, you can select a time and date to send the message by clicking in the field and using the provided calendar. You also have the option to choose Send Recurring if you would like to schedule a recurring message. Once you select this option, you can choose to repeat daily, weekly or on a selected day of every month, and you can also choose when to send the first message by clicking in the Starting field and using the provided calendar.
